“With an emphasis on dramatic visual and auditory storytelling, students will produce six scenes from existing scripts, rotating through the positions of director, director of photography, gaffer, production designer/camera assistant, sound designer/mixer, and boom operator/editor for each script. Students will be responsible for casting, location scouting, and set design in order to successfully produce each scene. “ - Communication Arts 467 (4 credits) - Fall 2023 Syllabus

Cinematography and Sound Recording

This class was my first real introduction into the word of narrative filmmaking. Being tasked with producing six scenes in twelve weeks was not an easy feat. This was a class that moved quickly and forced you to take note of all the little things that go into creating a scene. The most beneficial aspect of this course was being able to transition between different roles for each project. I came into this class knowing I wanted to be behind the camera, but had no knowledge of any other role, such as a sound mixer, which I was coincidentally assigned to as our first project. I was lucky enough to be placed in a great group of ambitious filmmakers who I am still friends with and make projects with to this day.
