Project Details
Role: Project Manager
Background:
“Reclaim Your Vote is the National Urban League’s flagship civic engagement and voter participation campaign. The campaign engages the entire Urban League movement, including 90+ affiliates, in mass mobilization efforts for voter registration, election education, and get-out-the-vote.” - National Urban League
Our goal for the Reclaim Your Vote Campaign at the Urban League of Greater Madison was to showcase five targeted ad’s explaining the importance of voting and why they should vote in the 2024 Presidential Election. There was an emphasis on reaching people of color in communities that may not have knowledge of voting, and informing audiences of what is a stake. The five groups included, Young Professionals, the Black Clergy, Former Incarcerated individuals, the Divine Nine, and Health care.
My role as project manager was reaching out to those in the community who would best represent these groups and interviewing them. I collaborated with a videographer to bring the Urban League’s vision to life and took the lead on editing together the final product to be shown across ULGM social platforms.
Young Professionals
“The Urban League Young Professionals is a volunteer auxiliary of community leaders ages 21-40 who work to empower communities and change lives through the Urban League Movement. The Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals chapter officially launched in 2012. Its purpose is to support the Urban League Movement through volunteerism, philanthropy and membership development.” - Urban League of Greater Madison - Young Professionals
Black Clergy
The focus for the Black Clergy ad is on voter education. Religion is one place where many people feel safe and seen. It is also a place where they go to look for a leader, and that is exactly what I wanted to show. If people see a leader and respect them, they will listen. We wanted to share prominent religious figureheads in Madison WI, Milwaukee WI, and Kenosha WI, and their encouraging words about the election.
Former Incarcerated
The overall goal for the Former Incarcerated ad was to make this group of people aware that there are ways for them to vote. Life is not perfect and people make mistakes, but we need them to know that they also deserve this right to have a say in what happens in this world. We partnered with Jerome Dillard, Executive Director of EXPO (EX-Incarcerated People Organizing to give more insight into this topic.
Divine Nine
Those within the Divine Nine know how to grab attention and bring groups together for a greater cause. That is exactly what we wanted to show here. Each of the nine groups represent and strive for different goals, but one thing all groups want is for everyone to make their voices heard through service, empowerment and fellowship. This ad features members from three different groups within the Divine Nine.
Healthcare
Healthcare is something everyone will encounter in one way or another at some point in their life. It is also a topic elections heavily revolve around as well. Because of that, it is important for all people to understand the benefits and what could also be at risk for them, especially older adults.
